Meeta Pandit hails from an illustrious family of musicians from the famous Gwalior Gharana and has emerged as one of the most promising singers in the world of Hindustani music today. Meeta is the disciple of her grandfather Padma Bhusan Pandit Krishnarao Shankar Pandit, a doyen of the music world in the th century, and her father, the legendary pandit Laxman Krishnarao Pandit.
Her melodious and versatile voice combined with her deep understanding of the musical tradition od the Gwalior School has helped fashion her style of singing, a style which appeals to both the older generation of music lovers as well as young enthusiasts. Besides her forte of Khayal , Meeta is equally proficient in tappa , Bhajan and Thumri.
A Doctorate in Music , Meeta has won many honours, notably the prestigious Sangeet NAtak Akademi- Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, as well as other such as the Indra Gandhi Priyadarshini Award, the Golden Voice of India , Sur- Mani, Yuva Ojaswini and Yuva Ratna. Meeta's popular music appreciation series on world Space satellite redio called swar shringer is creating a legion of new devotees for Hindustani classical music, with listeners across the world.
She has performed extensively in India and abroad and was Artist in redience at the invitation of the Government of France. A film on this young star's heritage and style has been captured in the film “Meeta – Linking a Tradition with Today”
