Sanchita Chowdhury (Tori), one of the most promising Dhrupad (Dagarvani) singers of our country. She comes from a family mith a musical legacy. Her father Pt. Amar Dey, a renowned tabla player of Farukhabad Gharana ( disciple of Ustad Majid Khan and Ustad Karamatullah Khan). He initiated her into Classical Music at very tender age.
Sanchita was initiated into Dhrupad by Smt. Kaberi Kar and later she took rigorous training from Pt. Devshankar Dwivedi. Sanchita was also fortunate enogh to receive some talim from stalwarts like Ustad Fariduddin Khan Dagar and Ustad Sayiuddin Khan Dagar. Sanchita's awards/prizes include "Sangeetacharya Girijashankar Chakroborty Award" from Rabindra Bharati, the first prize in Rajya Sangeet Academy's state level Dhrupad Competition, and certification from Akhil Bharatiya Dhrupad Mela (Varanasi).
Sanchita has performed all over the country including Bhopal, Varanasi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Chennai, Agartala, Vishnupur, etc. like Akhil Bharatiya Dhrupad Mela, Bharat Bhavan, ITC SRA Festivals, Baba Allaauddin Khan Music Festival, Jadubhatta Utsav, Maitreyee Music Circle, Aalapti Dhrupadi Music Festival. She also performs regularly for All India Radio & Doordarshan and other TV channels like Aakash Bangla, Tara Bangla, etc. she is presently working as guest lecturer ofDhrupad at Rabindra Bharati University.
