  • Chhaya Gupta started her music career at a very early age while learning Sitar from the Pandit Sunil Mukherjee. She feels fortunate for taking discipleship of the Sarod Maestro Pandit Buddhadeb Dasgupta, a disciple of the legendary Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitra. Chhaya lerned classical vocal from Pandit Dr. Tapan Bhattacharya, a renowned vocalist of Patiyala Gharana and Ustad Hamid Sheikh, a well known vocalist of All india Radio a contemporary of Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri and Pandit Bhismadev Chatterjee. Chhaya takes pride in becoming a disciple of Pandit Arun Bhaduri and Sangeet Bidushi Padmabhushan Girijadevi, gurus of Sangeet Research Academy. Her gurus train her to learn Kheyal Thumri dadra, Chaiti and Kajri. Chhaya has been performing Sitar for a long time. She was invited by the Royal Ontario Museum, Panorama India, and University of London U.K. to present her Sitar recital with simultaneous demonstration in vocal music. She was invited by Guelph university Students Organisation to play tribute to the latae Beatle George harrison by presenting a Sitar recital. Chhaya was invited by the North American Bengali Conferencein Los Angeles and Toronto. She is invited by many temples to present one or two hourlong Bhajansandhya or Bhajanprobhati for important religious occasions.

    She regularly performs, presents workshops and teaches Sitar aand classical vocal in Canada, U.S. , U.K. and Kolkata while visiting India. An M. A. (U.K.), specialist in SP ED and ESI, and English, Music and Drama teacher for Toronto District School Board and York Region School Board, Canada, Ontario, Chhaya takes every oppurtunity to convey the treasures of Indian Classical music to younger generations by regularly presenting workshops on Sitar and vocal music in the schools.
