  • One of the oldest tradition of musicians since 18th century, the Dhrupad tradition of Darbhanga and the Mallick family- they both are one & the same thing, Born in 1957, Pandit Ram Kumar Mallick belongs to the illustrious musical family of Darbhanga Gharana and represents the 12th generation of this musical lineage. His training in Dhrupad. Dhammar started at an early age under the guidance of his father late Pt. Vidur Mallick, the Dhrupad Maestro. He had the opportunity of learning from his grandfather Lt. Pt. Sukhdev Mallick, the renowned Dhrupad singer. .

    The tradition of Darbhanga is embodied in the stunning force of his form of Alapa, the incessant flow of his laya joined with the finest literature (Poetry). His recital is marked for the unique, rich repertory of compositions, the use of Khandarwani & Gaurharwani besides variety of layakaries & tihayees. He has been mastered not only in Dhrupad but also in Khayal, Thumari as well as Bhajan. .

    In the year 1985 he stood first at the national youth festival and was awarded by the then president of India Gyani Jail Singh representing Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University,Darbhanga. He was awarded by the Vidyapati Seva Sansthan, Delhi with title of Mithila Ratna in International Sammelan , Mumbai. He has been selected as a Dhrupad Guru for Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme 2010-11 in the field of Hindustani Classical Vocal (Dhrupad/Dhamar) by E.C.Z.C.C Kolkata. He was awarded Swati Tirunal Puraskar in the 39th Akhil Bhartiya Dhrupad Mela, Varanasi (2014). Outside India, his concerts have been recorded by Radio Bremen (BR), Radio Frankfurt (HR), Radio Belgium (BRJ), BBC London. .


    Shri Samit Kumar Mallick belongs to the illustrious musical family of Darbhanga Gharana and represents the 13thgeneration of this musical lineage. His training in Dhrupad started at an early age under the guidance of his guru and father Pt. Ram Kumar Mallick, a renowned Indian Classical Musician. He has also been trained from his uncle Pt. Prem Kumar Mallick , a renowned singer . He had privilege to learn from his Grand father late Pt. Vidur Mallick , renowned Dhrupad Maestro .

    He was awarded Gold Medal (President Award) in the National All India Radio music competition in the field of Dhrupad Music 2004 as well as National Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture for the period of two years 2004-05 . He stood first at the National Youth festival 2003 organized by Association of Indian University, Delhi. He has completed Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad with first Division in the year 2000 as well as Sangeet Bhaskar from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh with first Division in the year 2006.

    He was awarded Gold Medal in the first Bihar state inter university Tarang festival, 2008 representing by Lalit Narayan Mithila university, Darbhanga. He was awarded by the title of Surmani in 47th Kal ke kalakar Sangeet Sammelan 2008 presented by Sur singar Samsad - Mumbai. He was awarded Gold Medal in the 36th Akhil Bhartiya Dhrupad Mela, 2011 Presented by Anil Kumar Mishra JhunnFaundation Varanasi. He was awarded Pt. Ram Chatur Mallick Yuva Puraskar under Bihar Kala Puraskar - 2012 by Honrable Chief Minister of Bihar, Mr. Nitish Kumar.

    He is a regular broadcaster of All India Radio and Television, and is a well-known "B" High Grade Artist of AIR & TV in Dhrupad and has successfully performed at many prestigious music festivals all over India. He has been mastered not only Dhrupad but also in Khyal, Thumri, Dadra, as well as Bhajan, Vidyapati Geet. Shri Samit Mallick has participated at several prestigious musical events all over India with good remarks. Presently you are under the guidance of your father and is upcoming future talent of Indian Classical Music.
