Dr. Asit Roy was born in musical family in Kishorgonj District of Bangladesh. His father Janardan Roy was a sitar artists and Mother Usha Rani Roy was a vocal artist. He took the intial lesson of music from his parents. After that he was trained by Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Paresh Bhattacharya and Gopal Dutta in Bangladesh.
During the study at music in Rabindra Bharati University of Kolkata Dr. Roy has received talim of Kheyal from Pt. Amyaranjan Bandopadhya & Pt. Jagdish Prasad. Since a long time he is studying Dhurpad under the guidance of Renowned Dhrupadia of Dagar Gharana Smt. Kaberi Kar. Sometimes he got talim from his Dadaguru, the legend of Dagar gharana Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Khan Dagar. Dr. Asit Roy stood first at Dhrupad in the 'Talent Search Contest' arranged by 'Dover Lane Music Conference Committee' Kolkata in 1993. He performed Dhrupad in 'Akhil Bharatiya Dhrupad Mela' several times. He is a regular artist of 'Bangladesh Betar' and Bangladesh Television. Form 2001 he is teaching in the Department of Theatre and Music of Rajshahi University, the 2nd largest University of Bangladesh. Presently he is the chairman of this department.
