Tapash Kumar Das is one of the Popular Pakhawaj players in this generation of India today, Born in a musical family, Tapash since his very tender age has been learning tabla and Pakhawaj from his father and guru Pandit Kalipada Das. Tapash has been also benefited by the guidance from Pandit Biatthal Das Gujrati. Presently he is continuing his learning under the able guidance of two maestro — Pandit Ramakant Pathak and Pandit Swapan Chowdhury. Tapash has received National Cultural Scholarship from the Department of Culture, Government of India and also he has been selected for ‘Fellowship for Outstanding Artist’ from Department of Culture, Government of India. He also topped in several notable music competitions in the country and received many awards form the Government of West Bengal and the Government of India. Parallel, he pursued his education and obtained Master’s Degree in Percussions Music from Rabindra Bhrati University, Kolkata. Tapash has established himself both as on outstanding accompanist and Soloist and he has participated the most of the major music festival all over the country and abroad. He has been accompanying regularly with very eminent musicians both vocalists and as well as instrumentalists. In the year 2002 from I.C.C.R. Tapash has participated “contemporary Asian Music Festival” in South Korea to represent India very succsfully. Tapash Participated many Muscal Program in USA. Canada, South Korea, Mauritious, many times. He worked as visiting Lecturer in Mahatma Gandhi Institute of culture, Mauritious. For a decade Tapash has been broadcasting from All India Radio, telecasting from Doordarshan India and other Private T,V. Channels. He has several recordings in his credit including the recently released solo Pakhawaj CD (The Art of Pakhawaj). At present Tapash is a Guest Lecturer in the Instrumental Music Department Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
