Pandit Mahavir Chatterjee has been groomed under the tutelage of Pandit Badri Nath Savita of Mirzapur (UP). Pandit Mahavir lives in music. It is an experience to listen to him on stage and has made a path of his own. He always sings his own compositions and in every concert tries to do something new and creative. When performing on stage he takes the audience with him. His first love is Bhajan (Devotional Songs), based on Classical Raagas. Words of Soor, Tulsi, Meera, Kabir, Raskhaan through his voice, touch the soul of the listeners.
Patriotic songs, when rendered by him, get new horizon of feeling. Of course he sings Ghazals too.He sings Adhunik Gaan, Ragpradhans and Nazrul Geeties in Bengali with the same mastery. He has developed 3 new Raagas too. He is related to many organizations like SPICMACAY, Sangeet Sankalp, Sanskar Bharti etc. He has been participating in many concerts held in different parts of India and got appreciation for his unique style.
For the past few years, he is being accompanied on tabla by his younger son Shri Rudresh Ranjan Chatterjee, who is now wellknown for his classical and creative tabla playing. Till now, Pt. Mahavir Chatterjee has composed over 500 musical compositions. He has been honoured by many organisations like Junior Chamber, Triveni, Sanskar Bharti, Banga Samaj Ratna by Banga Samaj, Jati Ratna by Vaishya Samaj.
A versatile singer Pt. Mahavir Chatterjee, takes the music as a medium to achieve eternal peace and joy - a path towards the Almighty.
