  • This thought holds true by the playing of Sarangi through Sarwar Hussain, who has the power to reach the people. He is one of the most accomplished and promising musicians of the younger generation of sarangi exponents in India. He was born on 5th October 1981, at Gohad district near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. His musical heritage comes from a long line of distinguished sarangi exponents from Gohad.His ancestry can be traced back six generations to Ustad Fazal Khan, father of Ustad Ghansi Khan, famous for his mastery of the intricate Tappa Style.Sarwar’s father, Anwar Hussain is also a well known musician. Born in a family filled with music, Sarwar began learning Sarangi from his grandfather at a tender age of nine. The super ‘taleem’ which he received from Padmashree Ustad Abdul Latif Khan for eleven years is clearly reflected in his thoughtful and virtuosic playing style.His solo performance includes India as well as abroad. In India he performed at NCPA - Mumbai, NCPA Sarangi Seminar-Mumbai, Saptak Concert - Ahemedabad, Swarna Concert - Delhi Taansen Concert - Gwalior, Ustad Allauddin Khan Music Concert-Maihar Vasant Rao Deshpande Music Concert, Chakradhar Festival - Raigarh, All India Radio Music Concert,All India Radio National. In abroad he performed at South Korea, U.S.A. Paris and New York in 2007.


    Sarwar accompanied many artists during his extensive tour in India and abroad. Some of the stalwarts are Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pandit Ajay Chakraborty,Pandit L. K. Pandit, Pandit Chhannu Lal Mishra, Pandit Ulhaas Kashalkar, Pandit Anindo Chaterjee, Vidushi Savita Devi.Sarwar is an A grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has received many awards for his outstanding performance in the field of hindustani instrumental at Laxmi Bala Sammaan of All India Radio Bhopal and the title of “Surmani” from Haridas Music Concert at Mumbai in 1990 won the 1st prize at South Central Zone Cultural Centre {SCZCC} at Vijaynagaram in 1993 Ustad Bismillah Khan Young Generation Award for the year 2007-2008 by Kendriya Sangeet Natak Academy of Delhi in 2008.

    RECENTLY SARWAR HAS JOINED THE FACULTY OF SARANGI AT ITC -SANGEET RESEARCH ACADEMY, KOLKATA
