  • Santoor Maestro Pt Tarun Bhattacharya has been a pioneering and revolutionary musician who has changed the face of Indian classical music, he has been truly an unparallel music ambassador of India.
    One of the most celebrated torch bearers of Indian Classical Music he has virtually traversed the globe many times for performing in some of the most awe inspiring venues and cities like Royal Albert Hall, Palace-de-beaux (Brussels), Theater- De-La-Viile (France), Apollo Theatre (Spain), Jubilee Auditorium (Canada), Kremlin (Russia). The mesmerized list of admirers include Prince Charles, George Harrison, Paolo Solaris and many more of respected figures across the Globe.

    Pandit Bhattacharya has revolutionized Santoor, the instrument, as well as it’s style of play. He displayed for the first time ever (1980) that one could 'meend' or glide notes at the lower octave in a hammered instrument like Santoor. 
    Tarun Bhattacharya is the inventor of "mankas" or fine tuners that help in the tuning of this 100 stringed instrument fast, with a long lasting effect and a very high degree of accuracy. His innovative techniques of playing the Santoor also facilitates in the playing of "Krintans, Ekharatans, Boltans" broadening the utility of the Santoor in various traditional art forms. His improvisations on the shape and string arrangements have resulted in deeper and more classical sound for the Santoor. 
    Tarun Bhattacharya is recognized the world over for his wizardry in Ragdari, as well as, Layakari (mathematical calculations) and plays music that touches the inner soul.

    His Santoor thrills all his listeners transcending countries, cultures, gender, religions and age. He is one of the few contemporary classical musicians who reach out to Connoisseurs and the general public as he has been to able to adapt to the changing times despite keeping to the classical genre of music.

    He has released over 100 CDs and Cassettes. He has been the recipient of numerous felicitations like pre Grammy nomination in 97, excellence in world music USA, and his CD "Kirwani" has been acclaimed as the top 10 in the world. Pt.Bhattacharya received his talim (music instructions) from his father Pt. Rabi Bhattacharya, Pt. Dulal Roy and finally from the great Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar.
    He is Rotary International’s Global Ambassador for Peace & Goodwill and recipient of numerous awards.


    Bickram is known to experiment and reinterpret music and culture. Yet, his music is strongly influenced by thumri and khayal genres of the Patiala gharana. He dabbles in a vast repertoire of musical genres, from classical, rock, new-age, fusion to film music.
    Bickram was born (20 October 1966)in Kolkata, West Bengal to the tabla maestro Pandit Shankar Ghoshand classical vocalist, Sanjukta Ghosh. He studied at La Martiniere Calcutta and did his graduation in English from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata and Masters in English Literature from Jadavpur University.
    Bickram Ghosh has performed with musical legends like Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar. He also performed injugalbandis with his father in some concerts. Bickram has also worked with George Harrison just before the ex-Beatle’s death.
    Bickram performs in various avatars. His long standing band, Rhythmscape which performs neo-fusion music, celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2011. To mark the occasion, Rhythmscape collaborated with Greg Ellis to perform in Kolkata and Mumbai, an event organized by Folktronic. The band also released their second album, Transformation, which went on to win the Best Fusion Album at the Indian Recording Arts Awards 2012. Bickram performs within Troikala along with Assamese folk/indie singer Papon and Scottish singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni. Troikala was curated and organized by British Council in association with Folktronic. He has also performed as part of fusion Sufi act, “Sufusion” along with vocalists Ambarish Das and Parvati Kumar, keyboardist Indrajit Dey, and drummer Arun Kumar. Bickram has collaborated with Sonu Nigam to compose the music for the film “Jal”. Bickram has also scored music for many movies including the Mira Nair production, Little Zizou.
