It is very often observed by us that an artist, to whichever stream of art he may belong to, is blessed with nourishment by the atmosphere of his family. I, Gopal Bandopadhyay, am no exception to this ago-old trend. As a vocal artist, having mastery over Baul Songs of Birbhum and Bhawaiya-Vhatka of the North Bengal Region I had my initial grooming from my father renowned Kirtania Sri Bholanath Bandopadhyay. The fulfilment of the father’s teachings did not take long to materialise and I was very soon recognised and appreciated as a competent singer of Baul, Kirtan, Bhawaiya, Bhatiali, Lalan, Hasan Raja, Goyalparia, Mahout-Mai-Shal, Murshida Songs.
