Jaunpuri is a morning raga of the Asavari thaat. It is a sampoorna (heptatonic) raga using komal (flat) ga (3rd),dha (6th), and ni (7th). As the scale used in Jaunpuri is the same as that of some distinct ragas like Shuddha Rishav Asavari and Darbari Kanada, special attention must be paid to distinguish these ragas from one another. Some ragas have a strong association with a particular pace of movement-in the case of Jaunpuri the movement is chanchal (moderato). The exposition of Jaunpuri here includes alap, jor and jhala, followed by gat compositions in vilambit (slow) and drut (fast) teentaal (16 beat time cycle).

Desh is an evening raga, popular in both instrumental and vocal music, which is used extensively in all genres of Hindusthani music. In this recording, a ragmala is presented, in which the melody makes quick departures to other ragas, resolving again to the main melody of Desh. The ragas touched upon include Megh, Kedar, Tilak Kamod, Khamaj and Shivranjani. The taal is Sitarkhani, a swung 16 beat time cycle.

Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury is a disciple of Pandit Subroto Roy-Chowdhury of the Rampur-Senia gharana. His sitar style emphasizes the instrument's affinity with the ancient veena, utilizing techniques that explore the sitar's full potential. Indrajit's sitar work has been acknowledged across the world. He has performed at such venues as the Rabindranath Tagore Center Auditorium ICCR (Kolkata), Berlin Indian Embassy (Berlin), Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.) and has had his concerts telecast by Doordarshan (Indian National Television). Indrajit's recordings have been used by NBC for their network programming in 2009. Indrajit has been a visiting faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania teaching the university's sitar course.
