Pous Mela is a National Festival. There are few festivals in the world which match its enchantment. In 1891 on the 7th of Pous a Bramho Mandir was established in Santiniketan according to Maharshri Debendranath's desire. From the very beginning, the Santiniketan Ashram was engaged in running a Brahmautsav on that date. As laid down in the Trust Deed, the First Pous Mela was held on 7th Pous in 1894. In 1901, with the permission of his father Debendranath, Rabindranath established a school in the Ashram. Although the Pous Festival had been started in Rabindranath's youth during the lifetime of Maharshi Debendranath, the popularity of the occasion grew after the school was established in Santiniketan and gradually the festival broke the boundaries of the Brahmautsav and became a major Social and cultural fair. Crowds are increasing every year at an incredible rate; it draws lakhs of visitors from all corners of this country and abroad. Various forms of folk music are performed on stage, but the chief attraction is Boul Music.
